Men's Health

What is androgen deficiency?

Men can experience a drop in the production of testosterone with aging or due to a medical condition. androgen deficiency  is the term used when the body makes too little testosterone.

Testosterone is one of but the most important male hormone that men produce. It is responsible and helps with muscle and bone strength, libido as well many other physiological roles in the body. A drop in the levels of testosterone is normal as men with age however men can start experiencing some symptoms if the levels of testosterone get too low.

The symptoms of low testosterone are different and may vary depending on how long a man has had low testosterone for. some of those symptoms can include:

  • Feeling tired or fatigued
  • Feeling down or depressed
  • Low stamina
  • Loss of muscle
  • Loss of bone strength
  • Loss of facial or body hair
  • Gynecomastia (man breasts)

Those symptoms are not unique to low testosterone and can be due to many other causes. If you experience any of these symptoms see your doctor so that they may find out what might be causing them.

Blood tests can be performed to determine if you have low testosterone and whether compounding a tailor made solution may be right for you. Commercially available supplements do not offer relief in all  patients. The male body can be unique and require specific supplements to suit individual needs and a “one size fits all” approach can fail.

As men continue to learn about the benefits of male hormone replacement, increasing numbers of hormonal supplements are turning up in the marketplace. Too often, however, these supplements are the mass-produced, one-size-fits-all variety, which ignores the user’s individual patient needs.
